About the Longhorn Philanthropy Council

The Longhorn Philanthropy Council is a student-run organization through the University of Texas at Austin's Volunteer & Service Learning Center. With 20 members of many different cultural backgrounds, the LPC is off to a great first year of serving the Austin community.

The LPC is the natural outgrowth of the old Running of the Horns committee, which was established in the mid-1990s as a 5K race to raise money for the VSLC's other projects. After the successful conclusion of the 11th Annual Running of the Horns, the leadership of the committee decided to create a year-long organization to plan community outreach events. The natural result of this idea was the formation of the LPC in Summer 2008.

The LPC is committed to harnessing the community-minded spirit of the University of Texas family by encouraging student participation in community service events. This year, the LPC sponsored two service events: a food drive in November 2008 and a car bash in February 2009. The 12th Annual Running of the Horns will be the last event of the semester and will be held as an all-night walk-a-thon on April 17, 2009 from 7pm to 12am. Stay tuned for registration information!
